The United States Department of Transportation released a study that indicated a van loaded with eleven passengers as opposed to five is three times more likely to roll. The center of gravity shifting toward the rear of the vehicle dramatically affects the vehicle handling in an accident avoidance situation. The vehicle goes into an oversteer or "fish tail," which can lead to a loss of control and potentially a rollover.

Forty mph testing done on the van fully loaded shows that the vehicle will roll during a common testing maneuver called a J-turn.
